Assuming, as recent DNA studies suggest, we are all descendants of one family why did some of us chose to ‘civilize’ and others chose not to? Did the beginning of ‘civilization’ start with the agriculture and the illusion that we could own land, farm animals and commodify nature and its resources? What does the Aboriginal Australian have access to (seeing himself as one with nature) that the white man (seeing himself as separate from nature) does not? And is it possible for the white man to realign and re-identify with nature at this late date in his socialization?
DIVERGENCE - A Way Back to the Ancient Wisdom A social anthropological examination of where we came from; where we appear to be headed and how we can get back to the kind of satisfying life that most indigenous people of this planet enjoy.

ALMOST INNOCENT
Michael Mish’s mind and world view are cosmic, inclusive, pertinent, accessible, and profound. The grasp of Mish's reach makes one gasp as to the obvious truth in his clearly shared insights. I am widely read in the above fields, and an experienced counselor of thousands, yet even for me, this brilliant view is so refreshing as to astonish. Michael Mish is that rare "participant/observer" that helps us see/feel/know what we're seeing/feeling/knowing with vivid and astute magnification to make sure we are actually "getting it". Deftly carrying us back to universal experiences, our birth, our innocent childhood, our loss of innocence, he helps us see where and when our "lives went off the tracks" and amazingly, has offered useful and helpful tools to get them back on track. Individually and collectively, we ignore this book at our peril. Almost Innocent, provides a traceable trail of wisdom for joy and consciousness advancement. It is one of the most significant books I've ever encountered and will widely recommend as long as live and breathe. The originality, the vast breadth of concept and depth of awareness rival the minds of Freud, Jung, Margaret Mead, Einstein, Virginia Satir, and Carl Sagan. Mish gently carries us to a new threshold of self-understanding, and compassion for others who have also been "bitten by the lizard". He helps us re-wind and review our experience with our parents. Then he fashions a new bow where our arrow of destiny, both individually and collectively, can fly to happier and survivable heights. The question is, will we? I can't give this book enough stars. It is a galaxy in and of itself.
Ground-breaking non-fiction ALMOST INNOCENT dancing in the space between Michael Mish, musician, philosopher, playwright, composer, and environmental activist, has written a cross- disciplinary book that looks at the human condition with wise and clear eyes. Almost Innocent provides a unique and empowering solution to the greatest pain from which our modern world suffers: damaged innocence. With carefully chosen anecdotes, brilliantly wrought insights, and self revelation trembling with transparency, Almost Innocent delivers a wallop of wisdom. Perceptive, nearly haunting, Mish's understanding of a problem we all share offers surprising and imaginative solutions. The reader is gently taken by the hand, shown where we fell off the track, (through no fault of our own), a n d then offers a paradigm shift that allows restorative self- compassion. “Michael's brave decision to literally release all "the stuff of life", that most of us equate with security, inspires us to look deeply at how we are living, to explore the impact of our daily choices, and to be open to new possibilities and a greater vision for our lives. His descriptive use of the English language brings every page to life, spicing the entire book generously with his infectious, genuine, crinkly-eyed humor. A captivating read! I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who yearns for the courage to take that first step outside the box, to rediscover the innocence that is Who They Are. I'd recommend this book to anyone who wonders what role they can play to leave a better world for our children.” Donna Corso, Ashland, Oregon Personal Assistant to Neale Donald Walsch

The Beatles ushered us all into a new era. Personally, I waited on each new album just to see where our culture was going. They verged on being mystics. And I hung on every lyric, album cover and new musical style. Living in Hollywood was an exciting place to be and 1967 was a very exciting time to be there. The Summer of 1967 to be precise. Excerpt: On the day after graduation, I felt like my class-mates and I had been shepherded to the shores of Omaha Beach like cattle in the all-too-temporary amphibious landing crafts of high school. Some of us scattered to the shelter of the opened arms of colleges and Universities. Others tried to blindly find our way as artists, vagabonds and alternative life-stylers. Still others were canon fodder for a war no one, really, knew anything about. We were fighting for justice. But whose justice and why? Was this really about the spread of Communism and if Vietnam fell to the North Vietnamese, the rest of South East Asia would fall too?

Being a masseuse is somewhat similar to being a hair dresser. One gets to know peoples’ deepest secrets. Things people would never dare share with a spouse, their children or even a best friend, are shared with the masseuse. Why? It’s because people, when having their hair done or having a massage, are completely relaxed. They have nowhere to go and nothing to do. A certain honesty emerges that isn’t to be found anywhere else. These stories are all true accounts. Only in Thailand could such strange events happen. It is no wonder Thailand is called "The Land of Smiles". One can only smile at the sheer magnitude of the beauty, the oddities and eccentricities of human behavior.

I never intended to be a writer. But, some of the stories contained in this book are simply stranger than anything I could make up and I felt that they were interesting enough to share with others.
“One-hour oil massage, please,” he said. “Is anyone available to do the massage?” he asked. “I am, but I think you might want someone — strong. Can you wait a bit?” I asked. “No. You’ll be fine.” We both looked at each other and burst out laughing. We both laughed hard. This man, I’d never met before, and I were laughing until we were almost crying. You see, I’m tiny. Well, for a Thai woman, I am an average height. Compared to Westerners, I am really, really small. But, I don’t have the strength that many other masseuses have. I tend to do fine, almost surgical, work on muscles. The massage I do is done more with intention than strength.

Excerpt:
A great reset. A new currency. The currency? The creative mind. Everything is in place for an AI takeover except for the most valued of resources: the creative mind. The creative and critically thinking mind is the only natural resource left after all others have been exhausted. Cliff and Robin are warriors. Fighting to hold on to what is theirs.
As he watched Cliff ’s message inter-mingled with 0s and 1s on the binary screen slowly fading away, he heard himself repeating, “Stop resisting. Stop resisting you little prick.” Cliff had no right. No right to stand in the way of science. Cliff had to stop resisting in the name of science and submit willingly for the good of all. The uploading of a mind. And now, a soul extraction -- these were of science’s domain. Even though Finch wasn’t entirely sure how to differentiate a mind from a soul, it felt right. It felt good. Wasn’t the soul the thing that oversaw the mind? The great controller of the body and mind? In any case, Finch wanted what he wanted. No mere individual had the right to stand in the way of science’s march into the future. Technology is the future. And nothing was going to change that! To quantify and capture these two, formerly, illusive products was brilliant. To convert the mind into a trade-able product on a block chain. Absolutely wonderful! To extract the very thing that animates a life -- the soul! Pure genius! The soul could breath life into an otherwise lifeless body. This soul, stitching through the ethers and settling on a corporal form -- could be digitized and traded like -- like a commodity on the stock exchange!

“A gritty and honest venture into grief”
REVIEW 5.0 out of 5 stars If you feel alone in your suffering, this is the book to hold. Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2022 Verified Purchase Somehow, Michael has been able to take the most searing loss and transform it into words that bless, comfort and inspire. Two other resources help me with grief: the movie: What Dreams May Come and the CD/book, Graceful Passages. When She Died stands powerfully beside these masterpieces. It brings understanding, order, and compassion to the unthinkable, shocking and unbearable nature of loss. Mish's words are eloquent, and cut to the core nature of sorrow without trite religious platitudes, psychological jargon, or a hint of falsehood. One receives a road map through the horrific shock of loss, and a steady guide to light your way. The writing is clean and clear. Even if you're not currently dealing with a fresh grief, reading Michael's intimate reactions will touch and teach. It is not maudlin or cloying. When She Died is clean, clear and clarifying. Furthermore, its a "page turner." Couldn't put it down. Read in one sitting.

A n eclectic collection of 23 short stories whimsically covering our connection to nature and nature's connection to itself. Each story is quirky, extremely short and slightly left of center with an Aesop's Fables-like moral.
OLIVER is a cat. He is able to help identify the thieves that broke into his house and tried to murder his owner. ED is a dancing cockatoo whose favorite actor is John Travolta. The RINGS of a tree are able to transmit historical audio data via a ‘tree stethoscope’. THE ANTS decide that the antennae of all the ants in their colony are getting shorter, and decide to move on to another colony. A time-traveling WHALE imparts the secrets of the universe to a drowning man. What do these stories share in common? They are part of OLIVER and other short stories.
5 out of 5 Verified Purchase Often short stories are too long. These are the opposite, quick to read but clever, like nature fables really. Actually I think that they can be enjoyed by adults but many with humor and a whimsical point of view could be read aloud to children . I especially liked the story of a young woman sitting on a bench with her ferret, as they both enjoy the sunset! Or, the story about two ants who decide to go off on their own, away from demanding regimental other ants. Of course I was moved by a man who deeply misses his departed son, who finds that nature heals and soothes. Quirky might be a good description for several stories, like the lonely fly who comes to visit, but is not at all a pest. However I do not want to give away too much. Consider reading Michael Mish’s clever book and you too can discover how unique and charming his well written tales are. Highly recommended.
